GENERAL ANTONIO LUNA: HIS DOCTORAL THESIS AND THE EMERGING INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAM ON MALARIA
Dr. Benjamin Vallejo, Jr.
DR. BENJAMIN M. VALLEJO, JR. is Associate Professor of Environmental Science and concurrently head of the Science and Society Program in the College of Science, UP Diliman. He studied fisheries and aquaculture at UP Visayas, Marine Science at UP Diliman, and Marine Biology at James Cook University in Australia, where he did research on marine gastropod biogeography of the Philippines for his Ph.D. in Marine Biology. In 2007, he did post-doctoral training at Louisiana State University, USA, on molecular biogeography of marine gastropods. His research on the natural sciences has focused on biodiversity, palaeoenvironments, urban environments, invasive species, and biogeographic modelling for assessing climate and environmental change impacts.
He also has a research and teaching interest in the history and philosophy of science, especially on science during the Spanish colonial period of Philippine history. He has written science essays on the scientific work done by Georg Joseph Kamel, Jose Rizal, and Antonio Luna.
