Dr. Alwin C. Aguirre
DR. ALWIN C. AGUIRRE is a fictionist, academic, and faculty member of the College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines Diliman. He was awarded the Palanca for his short fiction and future fiction works in 1999, 2000, and 2002. As a discourse analyst, he has published and presented papers that bridge the disciplines of critical discourse studies, migration studies, identity work, affect studies, and internet studies. His current research interest is on the integration of critical multimodal semiotic analysis and affective analysis, particularly, the practice and production of emotion in migration discourse in online and offline discourse events.
He has written and directed several documentaries and instructional video productions for different institutions and non-government organizations, particularly on health campaigns, child protection, and psychosocial intervention. He holds a PhD from the Institute of Culture, Discourse & Communication, Auckland University of Technology under the supervision of Dr. Allan Bell and Dr. Sharyn Grahan-Davies.
