In this video resource, Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy distinguishes supervised learning and unsupervised learning. He is an assistant professor from the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies at the UP Open University and the current director of the Information Communications and Technology Development Office (ICTDO). Pugoy says that for one to do supervised learning, there has to be a training data set guiding the algorithm. On the other hand, unsupervised learning has no training data set and its possible outcomes are unknown as there are no performance indicators; the algorithm will be left to “learn on its own” and discover somewhat interesting structures.
