Dr. Raniela E. Barbaza is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature in UP DIliman. She completed her PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Binghamton University, New York, in 2010. Afterwards, she was given a Teaching Assistantship by the Department of Comparative Literature, State University of New York – Binghamton and taught several courses in 2007, 2009, and 2010.
She is also a recipient of several research grants including her current project on “Writing Bikol and the Bikolnon, 1900 – 1958: The Life and Works of Patricio M. Janer” which was given as an Enhanced Creative Work Research Grant by UP Diliman. She has also produced numerous academic papers including “Ang Bayan Bilang Kapwa: Katwiran at Batas sa Hinilawod (2013),” “Johnny at Jun Belgica: Pananahan sa Rugaring na Wikang Bikolnon,” and “Wika at Identidad: Wikang Bikol Bilang Lunan ng Bikolnon, 1890 -1956” (2014) which received the Gawad Natatanging Artikulo from Sentro ng Wikang Filipino, UP Diliman.
