SA PAG-UWI tells the story of a college student who goes home for the long weekend with his deaf bestfriend, meeting again his younger brother with autism.
JUAN CARLOS OJANO is an alumnus of the UP Film Institute. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Film last June 2016. He started shooting home videos and making short films for school at the age of ten while he started his own film blog at the age of fourteen.
Upon entering UP Diliman, he has made several short films. His short film Sa Pag-uwi (Coming Home), a drama entirely in sign language, won the Jury Prize in the Black Beret Undergraduate Student Showcase on May 2015.
His thesis film Headline was awarded the Special Mention in Narrative – Film during the UP College of Mass Communication Graduation Rites 2016. It was also the Best Editing winner at the Indie Un-Film Festival 2017 held at De La Salle University-Manila. The film has also been screened at the 28th CCP Independent Film & Video Festival, 2nd Asia Youth Indie Film Festival, 4th Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival, and Active Vista Human Rights Festival 2017.
MAIKLING PELIKULA is a program featuring outstanding and award-winning short films. Likewise to be featured will be a discussion and annotation by the director-filmmaker. The program will highlight the experimental and narrative genres of film.
