Dr. Maria Victoria Espaldon obtained her BSc in Biology and MSc in Forestry at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and her PhD in Geography at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. In 2005, she became the recipient of the United Nations Zayed Environment Award for her work on the ecosystem assessment of the Laguna Lake Region. As a prolific scientist, she has published over 50 journal articles and scholarly outputs on community-based resource management, sustainability science, vulnerability, climate change adaptation and resilience.
