In 2024, Region II lost PHP 2 billion in crops because of El Niño! And that’s not all—typhoons keep causing billions more in damage. Farmers can’t seem to catch a break!
But it’s not just farmers who are feeling the heat. Inland fisherfolk in the region are facing water shortages, rising temperatures, and storms that wreck their fishponds. Fish kills and flooded homes? That’s a tough life, right?
Coastal areas are in trouble too! With rising sea levels and stronger storms, the fishing community is losing resources. Typhoons come in, and the fish just swim away… or worse, the sea takes it all.
Meanwhile, upland areas face landslides during heavy rain, and low-lying communities along the Cagayan River? They’re regularly flooded. Imagine trying to go to work or school… The struggle is real!
And here’s the kicker: It is going to get worse. Research shows that Region II will likely see even higher temperatures in the future, making heatwaves and droughts even more intense. Typhoons? They’ll be fiercer, and floods will get worse. Yikes!
